COMMON HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS WARNING

Household products like salt, lemons, baking soda and vinegar have many uses other than cooking.  In the next few posts, I will be exploring the many uses of these products. You will see how easy and affordable it is to incorporate these items, in often surprising ways, into your routine.

While salt, lemons, baking soda and vinegar are fairly gentle, and these tips have been carefully researched, they are only tips, so before using them, use common sense and caution as they may not be ideal for your situation.  Always check the manufacturer’s recommendations or try on a small portion rather than using it on the entire surface. If putting it on your skin or in your body, try a test patch first or check with your doctor if you have any concerns.

For example, when mixing lemon or vinegar and baking soda, go slowly. The acid in both products reacts with the alkaline in baking soda, creating a fizzing, bubbling chemical reaction. Remember those baking soda and vinegar volcanoes from your school days? While the reaction was cool to see, the cleanup was not, and you could create a bigger mess than you anticipated or possibly ruin the surface you're trying to fix.

Did I pique your curiosity? Stay tuned for more ways to be greener and more frugal around the home. You will not be disappointed.
