Place an open box of baking soda in each of these spots and change every few months to enjoy an odor free room. You might need to use two or three boxes to be effective. 

The basement is also a magnet for mold and mildew. A solution to prevent and control this from happening is to spray walls and mop floors with one part vinegar to one part water. If you already have mold , scrub the surface with a brush then rinse with warm water.  Allow the area to dry completely by using fans and  dehumidifiers if needed. Allowing the area to dry completely is an important step, you don't want the mold or mildew to take over again.
